Bangladesh – Year 2: Le Projet Imagine x We Act for Kids

Paris, April 9, 2026

For the second year running, Le Projet Imagine has rolled out its Civic Engagement Programme in primary schools in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in partnership with the We Act For Kids Action Fund.

A programme that builds on previous work

The programme was rolled out in three Grameen Shikkha IDKIDS schools, located in neighbourhoods facing significant social and environmental challenges. The pupils, aged between 9 and 12, were divided into groups, each supervised by a teacher.
As in the previous year, the decision was made to work with the Inspiration kit ‘Self-awareness and Cooperation’, which the local teaching teams had fully embraced. This helped to further develop the teachers’ skills, avoid educational overload and further embed the programme’s participatory approach among the pupils.

Des projets ancrés dans la réalité des enfants

The programme is divided into two phases: prior to the main activity, the initial ‘inspiration/exploration’ phases identified four key themes that are close to the hearts of the children and their community.
A key principle lies at the very heart of Le Projet Imagine’s educational approach: projects are not assigned; they are chosen by the children.

Following the collective development process, three projects were successfully rolled out, each led by a school:

  • Raising awareness of road safety
  • Raising awareness of cleanliness and hygiene in relation to the use of toilet facilities
  • Environmental awareness and waste management, particularly through initiatives such as World Cleanup Day. This type of highlight event plays a key role – it enables both the gradual scaling up of projects and strong institutional recognition of the children’s work, as they see their actions valued beyond their immediate community.

Beyond the pupils directly involved, the programme’s impact has spread widely throughout the neighbourhoods concerned: each community comprises around 1,000 households, meaning that approximately 3,000 households have been indirectly affected.
The students also organised awareness-raising activities in slums and market areas, reaching a further 1,500 people. Le Project Imagine has therefore reached nearly 4,500 people, combining local initiatives, community engagement and the dissemination of prevention messages.

In this way, each classroom becomes a space where pupils gain practical experience of their ability to take action, cooperate and transform their immediate environment for the benefit of the wider community.
