From nursery school to the BTS, 35 classes of pupils from Réunion are committed to sustainable development!

Paris, July 22, 2026

“Young people are often told that they have rights and responsibilities,
but I tell them that they also have the power to bring about change in society!”
Frédérique Bedos

As part of a partnership with the Réunion Academy for the 2025–26 academic year, 35 classes – ranging from nursery school to BTS level – spread across 13 municipalities on the island, took part in the Imagine civic engagement programmes this year.

After several sessions focusing on self-awareness and understanding others – which helped to foster class cohesion – the pupils chose a theme aimed at improving their social or environmental surroundings and worked together to carry out a community project.

Some primary school classes chose to focus on intergenerational links through the ‘happiness of the gramounes’ or on the inclusion of children with disabilities, whilst others organised an awareness campaign on water conservation… Some secondary school pupils set up a relaxation area within their school, whilst others produced a TV news programme dedicated to the management of their Educational Land Area (Étang du Gol) to demonstrate their commitment to preserving and promoting their environment…
As for the sixth-formers, some organised a collection for people in need by partnering with a local charity, whilst others chose to produce awareness-raising videos about inappropriate behaviour… and the students on the BTS in Environmental Studies set up awareness-raising workshops to improve waste sorting within the school…

So many innovative and environmentally responsible projects aimed at promoting a better and more sustainable world, with highlights characterised by commitment, creativity and environmental citizenship, proof that it is possible to commit to a fairer, more inclusive and sustainable society from a very young age, and that it is a matter of education, and above all of trust (in oneself, in others, in one’s own power to make a difference…)!

« Ce projet a permis aux élèves
d’être responsables de l’entièreté du projet,
de l’idée à l’action terrain.
Ils ont aimé coopérer et s’entraider »
